About Me:
I developed K.Kess, a boutique wedding day coordination company, during the winter of 2014-2015 and have spent the last few years coordinating weddings and immersing myself in the wedding world. I have coordinated weddings ranging from 75 to 250 guests at various different types of venues [beach to ballroom to barn] for many different types of brides/grooms. I pride myself in my ability to calmly but assertively manage any unforeseen crises that arise on a wedding day. I make a point to work with the other vendors so that the bride&groom can worry less and enjoy more.
Read below to hear about my extensive past involvement with weddings prior to starting this company.
Personal Wedding Stats: I am extremely familiar with the ins and outs of the wedding process. I am a 2x MOH, 8x Bridesmaid, 1x Bride. I coordinated my own rustic-vintage wedding in Walkersville, Maryland in September 2014. I know, from personal and shared experience, the intense emotional roller coaster that a bride goes through during the wedding planning process. I am extremely understanding and considerate of how each individual has a different experience with wedding planning. I have also learned that each couple has their own idea of their "perfect wedding day" so I make it a priority to see the wedding day through the couples viewpoint rather than just my own.
Background: I have a masters in counseling psychology which has provided me with an immense amount of experience working with people of all different personality types. It has also helped me develop efficient problem-solving skills as well as the ability to adapt to a variety of situations. My experience as a research and project coordinator helped me polish my skills in meeting deadlines, communicating and organizing.
Personality: I am a Type A personality who thrives on organization and schedules. I also LOVE weddings from the romantic proposals to the tear-jerking first dances. Seeing the bride walk down the aisle gets me every time! So what better way to combine my natural skills of coordinating with my passion for weddings than to become a DOC?
Why do you need a DOC?
My Story: With the help of my family and friends, I coordinated my own DIY wedding. I poured thought and meaning in to every detail of the day! The wedding went very smoothly and we received so many compliments. However, I learned that even a bride who plans out every detail cannot be her own coordinator on the actual wedding day. I needed someone who could remember to give out the tip envelopes to vendors, deal with any crisis that came up with vendors, set up the favors the way I wanted, direct guests on where to go, bring me appetizers during cocktail hour and hold my flowers when they got too heavy.
My family and friends were amazing helpers but they were there to enjoy the day too and they couldn’t possibly remember everything! I even had a WONDERFUL venue coordinator but a venue coordinator is different than a day of coordinator. A venue coordinator oversees the day to make sure there are no problems with the venue itself (e.g., is the electricity up and running). My venue coordinator helped more than she probably had to which was great but this is where I could have used a DOC to ensure all the little details I spent so much time on were all done correctly. It made me realized the incredible importance of having a trusted person to help execute your special day so that you can truly relax and eat up every second of one of the most memorable days of your life.
