Every month, I will be choosing one couple whose wedding or proposal I am swooning over. My pick for my first feature is a proposal that took place last February 2014. I actually saw Jeremy the night before he proposed because they were roommates with my younger sister, Alyssa and her boyfriend, Owen. Jeremy was so excited as he reviewed the plan with Owen, who would be secretly videotaping the whole proposal the next morning! This proposal had all the necessary elements: a surprise ( she thought they were meeting friends for lunch) a sentimental location (the university they went to school at), an A Cappella group (she loves singing), a secret videographer (priceless memories!) and a new puppy (an adorable one at that...)! Read my interview below with the couple to hear more details on this amazing, well-thought out proposal. Props to you, Jeremy!

Featured Interview for May:
Katrina: How did you two meet?
Danielle: We met through out mutual friend, Andrew, at the beach. Jeremy had been invited down to the beach house and was supposed to leave prior to my arrival. The boys took the jet skis out for a morning ride but both of the jet skis broke down, delaying their departure. That's when I arrived. We met on the back deck of the beach house and there was definitely an immediate interest in one another. Jeremy decided to delay getting on the road and spend the rest of the day with me at the beach.
K: How long were you dating before he popped the question?
D: 6 years! But the timing was absolutely perfect for us.
(I truly understand. My husband and I were dating for 6.5 years before he popped the question. Patience is a virtue!!)
K: Jeremy, your proposal was so creative and sweet. I loved all the personalized details you incorporated. Tell me more about how you came up with the proposal plan.
Jeremy: I knew that proposing with a puppy was the perfect way to ask Danielle to spend the rest of her life with me. She has always wanted a dog of her own and it really was the perfect time in our life to add Sadie. However, I had to reserve her 6 months in advance which gave time for the proposal ideas to snowball. I just thought about how I could incorporate the things she loves into one event: an A Capella group, the University of Delaware, our family, and the restaurant where we had our first date. Capturing the day on video was the best decision I made, as we can relive the moment whenever we want.
Danielle: He couldn't have picked a better location to propose. I'm also really into music and the group he arranged to sing for us was one of my favorite groups while we attended the University of Delaware. And let's be honest, who doesn't want a puppy? I honestly never thought about having my family there for the proposal but as soon as I got engaged, I immediately wanted to call my parents. When Jeremy waved them over to us, I totally lost it.
K: Jeremy, what were your emotions on the day of the proposal?
J: Excited and nervous to finally have this happen after keeping it a secret for so long. I was actually relieved after it was over! It's hard keeping a secret, even if it is a surprise, from your best friend. I was sneaking around all the time from getting the dog, picking out the diamonds and setting up the proposal. And also having the ring for weeks beforehand was dangerous as I almost proposed before the planned date. But when she said yes, all the emotions just went away and the happiness of knowing we will be together for the rest of our lives took over.
(Isn't he romantic!?)
K: Were there any hiccups in the plan that you had to deal with on the day?
D: Well, Jeremy wanted me to get dress up (obviously, because he about to propose and had someone to photograph and video the proposal). I am the most stubborn human being in the entire world and told him I didn't feel like changing and doing my hair to go to lunch with our friends. He finally let the issue go but still teases me about my outfit that day. Other than that, the day went flawlessly.
K: Danielle, what were the most surprising parts of that special day?
D: The whole proposal was extremely surprising. I had no idea that he was going to propose which definitely made it all the more special. It's also embarrassing to admit that I had no idea the puppy was ours to keep. Even after he proposed with the puppy, I was like "Whose dog is this?" The sneaky man had driven up to New Jersey earlier in the week to pick up the puppy and his family had been watching her until the big day.
K: Do either of you have any important tips you would offer to other people planning proposals?
J: Go big! This is probably the greatest moment that you will ever have to show the other person how much you truly love them. You only get one shot at it! Going big does not equal expensive, though. The last thing you want is to enter into a financially burdened marriage. When buying a ring, make sure you know what style she likes best and learn how to get the best diamond for your dollar. Things like color and clarity can be sacrificed to an extent without her ever noticing but always get the best you can afford.
(Very good advice! Don't go broke over the proposal ! It's no way to start a marriage).
K: So last but most important question...what is the doggie's name and how is she doing? I see she was in your engagement photos.
D: The dog's name is Sadie and she's completely amazing! She's the absolute love of my life (besides Jeremy, of course!) She's a year old and full of energy. She won't be involved in the actual wedding day but she was in our engagement session with our photographer, Maria DeForrest. It was incredibly special to have the shoot at the University of Delaware (where we went to school and got engaged) and Rehoboth Beach (where we are getting married) to have Sadie with us for the whole day.
The cute couple will say "I do" on September 5, 2015 at Rehoboth Beach Country Club in Rehoboth Beach, DE. Congrats Danielle and Jeremy! I can't wait to see the beautiful photos and hear all about your special day.
